The Person

The Accounts Receivable (AR) Clerk is responsible for the accurate and timely processing of client payments, daily cash allocation, sales invoice uploads, and monthly statement generation. This role plays a key part in maintaining clean, current, accounts receivable records, supporting credit control activities, and ensuring clear communication with clients, insurers, and internal teams. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organised, proactive, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills, able to manage stakeholders across the business and work closely with Adjusters, Managers, Client Managers and other Finance colleagues.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the Accounts Receivable Clerk include (though are not limited to):

  • Accurately record and allocate client payments (bank transfers, cheques, remittances, etc.) to the correct client accounts and invoices.
  • Reconcile daily cash receipts and ensure all allocations are completed promptly.
  • Investigate and resolve unidentified or misapplied payments.
  • Communicate with clients or brokers to obtain missing or unclear remittance information.
  • Build and design processes to streamline cash allocation, including enhancing the handling of client remittance advices.
  • Upload and process daily sales invoices into Sage/ SAP.
  • Verify invoice accuracy, coding, and supporting documentation before posting.
  • Maintain organised records of all sales invoices and supporting documents.
  • Generate and distribute monthly client account statements, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Prepare and issue insurer statements in the required insurer-specific formats, ensuring compliance with reporting requirements, submission timelines, and agreed insurer debt-chase processes.
  • Produce AR reports including aged debt listings, cash allocation summaries, insurer balances, and reconciliation reports.
  • Support month-end reporting requirements and meet all internal deadlines.
  • Highlight overdue balances and assist with credit control follow-up actions.
  • Monitor client accounts to ensure timely settlement of invoices.
  • Assist in resolving payment discrepancies, short payments, or account queries.
  • Maintain accurate AR records and documentation in accordance with company policies.
  • Support internal and external audits by providing required AR documentation.
  • Help manage and maintain the Accounts inbox, ensuring queries and requests are addressed, prioritised, and escalated as needed.
  • Respond promptly to client, insurer, and internal queries relating to invoices, statements, and payments.
  • Collaborate with sales, operations, client services and finance teams to resolve billing or payment issues.
  • Support business transition projects where appropriate.
